JoAnn Grimm

BOONE, Iowa—JoAnn Grimm, 91, of Boone, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at her home, with her family by her bedside.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Central Christian Church, 803 Greene Street, Boone. There will be a luncheon and time of fellowship with the family, immediately following the service. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

JoAnn was born May 4, 1932, the daughter of Arnold and Mable (Olson) Bloomquist. She graduated from Boone High School in 1950.

JoAnn was united in marriage to Leonard Grimm on July 2, 1950, at Central Christian Church in Boone. She was employed at Donnelly’s and Montgomery Ward, before spending 25 years with JCPenney’s, retiring in 1994.

JoAnn volunteered for many years in various capacities at the hospital and worked for a number of years in the Legion Cabin kitchen. She was a member of ABWA, Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Purple Hats, and the Order of the Eastern Star. JoAnn was a member of Central Christian Church, where she served in several capacities, many of which involved spending time in the kitchen preparing meals. She was very well known for her deliciously baked pies and decorated themed cakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard in 2007; two brothers, Charles Bloomquist and Milford Bloomquist; and a sister, Phyllis Reed.

JoAnn is survived by her three children, Pamela Myers, Marlin (Sherrie) Grimm, and Diana (Scott) McLaughlin, all of Boone; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jackie) Grimm, Chantell Grimm and Kyle (Kara) McLaughlin all of Boone; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Halle, Kaylin, Lily, Nolen, Emma, Larkin, and Grayson; three brothers, Harold Bloomquist of Kimberling City, MO, Dennis (Sharon) Bloomquist of Boone, and Keith (Mary) Bloomquist of Marshalltown; numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including her Regency family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion, or to Central Christian Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to JoAnn’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
