Wind Chill Warning until Noon Tuesday

KWBG 01/14/24

DES MOINES, Iowa—The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning for most of Iowa due to the very cold temperature and windy conditions.

...Life Threatening Wind Chills into Early Next Week...

Northwest winds have ushered in Arctic cold air with current
temperatures well below zero and wind chills in the 30s and 40s
below zero. This extreme Arctic air combined with breezy to strong
winds will continue to create dangerous temperatures and wind
chills through early next week, with wind chill values as low as
45 below zero possible at times.

Though blizzard warnings and winter weather advisories have
ended, please continue to check the latest road conditions prior
to any travel in and around Iowa. Use caution while traveling
through next week as many roads may still be partially to mostly
snow and ice covered.

...WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 45
  below zero.

* WHERE...All of Central Iowa.

* WHEN...Until noon CST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills could cause
  frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Life threatening wind chills are expected.
  You may experience frost bite and hypothermia in a matter of
  minutes if not properly dressed for the conditions. Limit time
  outdoors.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure you
wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
