Drought Monitor Shows Improvement, But Not Locally

Posted on 18 January 2024 by KWBG

DES MOINES, Iowa—The weekly drought monitor map shows some improvement in conditions across the State of Iowa. But, it doesn’t show any improvement locally in Boone County. The U.S. Drought Monitor map was released Tuesday and made available through the National Weather Service Thursday. There was a significant decline in Extreme Drought in Southeast Iowa. There were also several areas that dropped out of Abnormally Dry conditions. This week, drought conditions existed in just 80% of the state. Unfortunately, Boone County remains about 52% in Extreme drought with the balance in Severe Drought.
