Donald Myers

PILOT MOUND, Iowa—Donald Steven Myers, 72, of Pilot Mound, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at his home. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. Military honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Don was born November 26, 1951, in Boone, the son of Maynard and Mildred (Harker) Myers. He attended Boone High School, where he participated in football, basketball and baseball.

Don enlisted in the United States Army on February 24, 1970, serving in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged February 16, 1972. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was a member of the 101st Airborne Infantry Division, known as the Screaming Eagles. For his service, Don was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Air Medal w/Numeral 2; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; and Marksman (Rifle M-16).

Don was united in marriage to Pamela Grimm on January 26, 1975, in Boone. After 40 years of marriage, they divorced.

Don started working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1975 and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 2012. He enjoyed working, looked forward to his yearly trip to Las Vegas, was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and was exceptional at both deer and mushroom hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Johnny Myers, Bill Myers, Ed Myers and Art Myers; and a niece, Jana (Myers) Laughridge.

Don is survived by his brother, Mike Myers of Arizona; three nephews, William Curtis Myers of Boone, Scott (Kayla) Myers of Mt. Pleasant, and Dennis (Cindy) Myers of Alamogordo, NM; a niece, Kimberly (Matt) Matlock of Clovis, NM; two great-nieces, Jessie Jones of Bloomington, MN and Elizabeth Laughridge of Perry.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Don’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
