Iowa DOT Updates Nighttime Closures on I-35 Between Huxley and Ames

KWBG 03/22/24

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa ––If you drive on Interstate 35 between Huxley and Ames you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime closures of I-35 that may impact your trip.

Due to weather concerns, the Iowa DOT’s Marshalltown construction office has rescheduled the closure dates for this project. I-35 will now be closed from Iowa 210 to U.S. 30 on the following dates and times.

  • Wednesday, March 27, at 10 p.m., until Thursday, March 28, at 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, March 28, at 10 p.m., until Friday, March 29, at 5 a.m.
  • Monday, April 1, at 10 p.m., until Tuesday, April 2, at 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 2, at 10 p.m., until Wednesday, April 3, at 5 a.m.

Construction crews need to remove the 315th Street bridge over I-35. While the roadway is closed, you will follow a marked detour route around the work zone using Iowa 210, U.S. 69, and U.S. 30 (see map).

Changes could be made to detour routes during the construction season. Please visit 511ia.org for current detour route information before traveling through this construction zone and pay attention to detour signing and messages boards while driving.

Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.

The latest traveler information is available anytime through our 511 system.
