BOONE, Iowa—Lee Donald “Squeak” Lingren passed away March 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Squeak always enjoyed a good party. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on
Friday, April 19, 2024 at Cedar Pointe Golf Course. Please dress in Iowa State attire for the Celebration. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Boone First United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be held in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
“Squeak” was born February 18. 1930 on a farm near Boxholm, Iowa. He was the son of Elsie Freie and Floyd H. Lingren. He lived there until he was four when they moved to a farm East of Boone. He attended country school and later, Jordan Consolidated School where he got to ride a bus. In his eighth grade he moved to a farm East of Ogden, Iowa. He attended Ogden High School where he graduated with the Class of 1948. Go Bulldogs!
He worked for Massey Ferguson as a welder until the plant closed. He then went to work for Fareway as a truck driver. He spent 35 years total, full-time and part-time at a job he really enjoyed.
He was a member of the Enlisted Association, an Officer in the Moose Lodge. He coached the Little League Cardinals for 24 years. He served three terms on the Boone City Council representing the 4th Ward. “Squeak” loved watching the Cubs and the Iowa State Cyclones. Lee was confirmed in the First United Methodist Church on Palm Sunday, April 18, 1943. He has been a loyal and faithful member since.
He and his wife Danis enjoyed ushering Sundays at the First United Methodist Church and helping out with the Thanksgiving Dinner. He and Danis enjoyed going to casinos in Iowa and Las Vegas. They spent winters in Arizona and Florida before setting on Port Aransas, Texas for fifteen years.
“Squeak” was proceeded in death by his wife of 68 years in May 2019. His oldest daughter, Terry Stienbach in July 2019, and great-grandson, Keaton Clark. His parents, three older brothers, Paul, Earl and Dale.
He is survived by his three daughters; Kim (Mike) Lonergan, Shawna (Dave) Frohling and Stacie (Brian) Bennett, all of Boone, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great- granddaughters. One sister; Eileen VanPelt of Perry, two brothers; LaVerne (Joan) of Ogden, Larry (Wanda) of Boone, many nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved cat Emma Grace.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Lee’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
