OGDEN, Iowa—Keith Durrell Thacker, age 74, of Ogden, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at home.

Keith was born on February 3, 1950, in Boone, to Kenneth Thacker and Carolyn (Pharaoh) Thacker. Keith attended schools in Luther, Boone, and Ogden, and was a 1968 graduate of Ogden High School. As a young man, Keith held various positions as a farm worker, movie theater projector operator, and gas station attendant.

Keith joined the United States Navy in 1968. He attended boot camp in San Diego, California, and was then stationed at the Adak, Alaska Naval Air Fire Station. Later he was stationed on the USS Enterprise.

Keith was united in marriage to Linda Shaeffer on December 5, 1970, in Boone. In later years, Keith opened Keith’s Used Autos & Parts and a salvage yard in Boone, which he operated until his retirement.

Keith enjoyed racing cars, playing poker, collecting antiques, watching Chicago Cubs baseball games, hunting, fishing, and also riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Keith and Linda enjoyed visiting the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally together.

One of Keith’s greatest joys was spending time with his family, including all of his grandchildren and his great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kay Lutz.

Keith is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda; two brothers, Kurt (Sandy) Thacker and Kris (Barb) Henning; sister, Connie Hardin; aunt, Lynda (Jerry) Carlson; his sons, Scott Thacker and CW Thacker; grandchildren, Kourtlin Thacker, Kalyssa Baker, Bryce Baker, Jaxson Thacker, and Wyatt Thacker; great-grandson, Greycynn Roby, nieces, Vicki Kenemer, Lila Richey, Monica Henning, Jeanne Sorenson, Tricia Small, and Cilia Carson; nephews, Christopher Henning, Robert Henning, and Joshua Thacker; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family, friends, and others are invited to the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, in Boone, for a visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:30 pm. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, Boone. Expressions of sympathy may be made in whichever ways you wish.
