Boone City Council Moves Ahead with Chicken Ordinance

Posted on 02 April 2024 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Mayor Eli Stines had said he would bring a draft ordinance to permit chickens in Boone to the council and that was part of Monday’s meeting. Stines said ordinances from other communities were used to prepare the draft ordinance considered by the council. He said over the past several weeks, council members had the draft ordinance and were able to suggest changes. During Monday’s meeting, much of the discussion focused on enforcement and the scope of penalties. In the end, Council Member Kole Hilsabeck moved to bring the finished ordinance with the suggested changes to the full council to consider at their April 15th meeting. Hilsabeck, Williamson, Byrd and Kahookele voted to move forward while Angstrom, Henson and Moorman were opposed.

Current city code does not permit chickens in Boone.
