BOONE, Iowa—Elizabeth Joan Snyder, age 86 of Cincinnati, OH, and formerly of Boone, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Lodge Nursing and Rehab Center in Loveland, OH.

Elizabeth was born on February 19, 1938, in Boone, IA, the daughter of James and Mary (Lyons) Fitzgerald. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1955.

Elizabeth was united in marriage with Raymond Snyder on May 19, 1956, at Sacred Heart Church in Boone.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the CEO of the Snyder household, and her family was everything to her. She worked 24/7 and filled many roles, including short order cook, Uber driver, room mother, neighborhood mom, and counselor to many who found their way to her kitchen table. In the summer, she would supply snacks and make Kool-Aid “slush” in the blender. She was famous for her homemade chocolate cake, and everyone who walked through her door learned the proper way to eat her cake – in a bowl with milk on it. Her cake was so delicious, not even her husband Ray could taint it by adding Jell-O, bananas, and Watergate salad in the jumbo-sized blue bowl he used when eating it. Her cake is a tradition that lives on through her children and grandchildren, and it is the go-to cake for family birthdays. Elizabeth was selfless; always doing for others. She was a prayer warrior and had a personal relationship with Mary and Jesus. Her prayers often came in handy when her husband and children needed them. She lived for others until the end, even waiting for her children to be with her before saying goodbye (for now).

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Raymond in 2022; daughter, Elizabeth Snyder; two grandsons, Colin Snyder and Brendan Snyder; great-grandson, Liam Snyder; four brothers, John, James, Donald, and Leo Fitzgerald; two sisters, Catherine Therese Riordan and Marylee Doerr.

She is survived by her children, Patrick (Shawn) Snyder of Wausau, WI, Michael (Jean) Snyder of Cincinnati, OH, John (Tina) Snyder of Chicago, IL and Mary (Robert) Orr of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Heitman, Dan (Rebecca) Snyder, Margaret (David) Luken, Sarah Snyder, Tyler Snyder, Kiersten Snyder, John Snyder, Margaret Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Joseph Orr, Mary Kate Orr and Elizabeth Orr; great-grandchildren, Lyra and Declan Heitman, Liam, Rory and Finn Snyder, William and Sophia Luken, and Addy Snyder; sister, Yvonne Elsberry of Boone.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets, with a Rosary to begin at 8:00 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, in Boone. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Life League.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left Elizabeth’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
