BOONE, Iowa—Marlin R. Johnson, age 76, of Boone, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Eastern Star Masonic Home from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was a lifelong resident of the Stratford/Boone area. He was born on July 19, 1947, to Lester R. Johnson and Irene Patterson Johnson of rural Stratford. He graduated as valedictorian of the Stratford High School class of 1965, and from DMACC in Boone. He grew up in the South Marion Methodist Church, where he served for a time as a church organist.
He joined the Navy during the Vietnam war, serving in and around Vietnam from 1968 to 1972 and in the Naval Reserve from 1972 to 1974. Returning home, he helped his father farm. In 1979 he married Deborah Anne Vogel of Boone, and the couple welcomed two sons, Steve, and Eric. The marriage ended in 1988. In 1996 he married Claudia Jean Davidson of Boone. Through his life, he worked in farming, construction, in lumber delivery, and in security. He had a strong interest in photography, and a love of music, having played trumpet in high school, and piano and organ throughout his life.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia, of Boone; son Steve (wife, Odette Tan) of Austin, Texas; son Eric (wife, Emily) and grandsons Mason and Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas; brothers Paul, of Aurora, Ohio, Larry (wife Karon) of Harrison, Arkansas; sister Elaine (husband Tim) of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the South Marion Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at South Marion Cemetery following the funeral service.
