Mike McCoy

KWBG 06/26/24

BOONE, Iowa—Micheal Edward McCoy, 73, of Boone, won his long battle with lung disease on June 24, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mike is breathing easy with his new lungs on the streets of heaven.

Mike was born in Boone, Iowa on October 25, 1950, to Dale Edward McCoy and Bette Lou (Cramblet) McCoy. Mike grew up in Beaver with his five siblings, graduating from Grand Community High School in 1968. Mike married Vicki Phipps in 1968 and to that union welcomed a daughter, Michelle (Shelly). Vicki passed away in 1972 and Mike continued to raise Shelly in the Beaver area. In 1980, Mike met the love of his life, Linda Crosman and the two were married a month later on November 9th, 1980, at Don Williams Lake. Mike, Linda, and Shelly’s family were completed when Shawn Micheal McCoy joined them on December 1, 1984, followed by Bobby Daniel McCoy on May 20, 1986.

Mike’s career life encompassed so many things and there was nothing he hadn’t done and couldn’t do well. He worked for many years at Chicago North Western Railroad and he would eventually retire from Sauer Danfoss in Ames. Mike would tell you his biggest accomplishment was his family. A proud husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and great grandpa. His love for his family was endless and without pause, continuing to stay involved, even when his lungs kept him from leaving his home.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Shelly (Lance) Kooiker; sons, Shawn (Bri) McCoy and Bobby (Emilie) McCoy, all of Boone. Grandchildren: Jadyn (Cory) Crnkovich of Woodward, Lane (Bailey) Kooiker of Woodward, Briley and Kenzie McCoy of Boone, Lexi Stanton, Mavrick and Opal McCoy of Boone. Great grandchildren: Liam, Lakynn, Maisie, Case and Lukas. Sisters: Dianna (Deke) Becker, Pat (Ken) Elsberry, Barb (Mark) Appenzeller, Cindy (Tom) Friess; brother, Tim (Janice) McCoy and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his first wife Vicki, his young daughter, Chantyl and his parents.

All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Mike’s Life and luncheon on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 11am to 2pm, with service of remembrance at 2pm at the Beaver Community Center, 121 3rd Street Beaver, IA. Mike absolutely loved classic cars and his family encourages anyone who has a classic car to please bring it to display in front of the Community Center, as an impromptu car show for Mike. Memorials may be made to the family in Mike’s memory.

Condolences and memories of Mike can be shared with his family at www.AmesCremation.com.

Ames Monument & Cremation Center is entrusted with caring for Mike and his family.
