Swimmers hit the road for Mason City meet

The Boone girls swimming and diving team faced strong competition in Mason City as it participated in the Riverhawk Girls Swimming Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Boone girls swimming and diving team faced strong competition in Mason City as it participated in the Riverhawk Girls Swimming Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. 

Teams present included Algona, Boone, Decorah, Fort Dodge, Mason City, Spencer, Waukee, and Waukee Northwest. Boone finished seventh with 167 points. 

Sophomore Avery Howie finished fifth in the 100-yard free (1:00.92) and sixth in the 100-yard back (1:07.98). 

Howie also was a part of the 200-yard free relay which placed sixth (2:05.06). Other swimmers were senior Brooke Lile, junior Tessa Gute and sophomore Claire Enabnit. 

The 400-yard free relay of junior Rachel Ungs, freshman Sara Gute, junior Katelyn Brandhorst and senior Avery Overland also placed sixth (4:27.58). 

A top 10 finish was secured in the 200-yard medley relay (2:05.06) comprised of Howie, Lile, Enabnit and Tessa Gute. Other top 10 finishes included Lile in the 200-yard IM (2:33.96), Tessa Gute in the 100-yard free (1:04.47) and Enabnit in the 500-yard free (6:15.91). 

Diver Hailey Olson placed 8th in the 1-meter event with a score of 243.55. 

The Toreadors are back in action again tonight at the Perry Invite at 6:30 p.m.
