BOONE, Iowa—Charlene “Char” Marie Braland, 86, of Boone, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, at home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed on Char’s Tribute Wall on the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel website. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone.
Char was born November 30, 1937, in Boone, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Cooper) Michel. She graduated high school in 1956, with the first graduating class of United Community.
Char was united in marriage to Arnold “Arnie” Braland on September 1, 1956 in Boone. They lived in many different places throughout Iowa and Illinois, before settling back in Boone in 1963.
She enjoyed quilting, camping, flowers, all types of sports and followed Arnie for 18 years while he was auto racing. Char was a homemaker and she helped with taking care of all the grandchildren throughout the years. She was known for her baking when all the family was together at the holidays. Family was the most important to Char.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brian Arnold Braland; four brothers, John Ross, Charles “Chuck” Michel, Floyd Michel and Gerald “Pete” Michel.
Char is survived by her husband of 68 years, Arnie Braland of Boone; three children, Rick (Sharon) Braland of Ogden, Dianne (Gary) Frisk of Indianapolis, IN, and Lori (Perry) Brown of Boone; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brother, Steve (Linda) Michel of Boone; two sisters, Judy (Mike) Frist of Boone and Vickie (Don) Whattoff of Kearney, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
