The Madrid and Boone cross country teams participated in the large Gilbert Cross Country Invite held at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in Ames on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Nineteen schools from across Iowa attended the meet. The Madrid girls finished in 11th place while the Boone girls finished in 17th place.
Junior Katelyn Brandhorst was the top finisher for the Tigers, securing a 10th place finish in 19:01.10. Sophomore Madelyn Grothus was right behind and finished in 11th place in 19:12.80.
Other runners earning points for Madrid were sophomore Hannah Brandhorst in 20:22, Adelyn White in 22:52.20, freshman Ashlyn Burkhard in 26:33.10 and sophomore Ari Munday in 26:38.
The Toreadors were led by sophomore Emmalyn Thomas who finished in 45th place in 20:55.20. Freshman Lynneah Pickering crossed in 23:19.10 and freshman Morgan Chesnut ended in 23:24.10. Rounding out scoring for Boone were sophomore Bry Morgan in 23:54.50 and sophomore Poppy Malone in 25:37.50.
On the boys side of the meet, Madrid placed 16th and Boone placed 18th.
The Tiger boys were led by senior Blake Renze, who finished in 44th place. Sophomore Caleb Berberich crossed in 18:27.90, and senior Cavin Pehl ended in 19:00.
Several seniors rounded out the scoring for Madrid with Brody Buck in 19:49.20, Tate Lawson in 20:09.10, Aspen Englund in 21:49.90 and Matai Peasley in 21:51.
Junior Dorian Myers claimed the top finish for the Toreadors with an 84th place finish in 18:21.90. Sophomore Calvin Cook followed in 19:43.60.
Others scoring for Boone include Kyan Lehman in 19:59.40, junior Simon Enabnit in 20:08.80, sophomore Pearson Lampe in 20:11.40, sophomore Sam Chesnut 21:05.80 and senior Carden Nerem in 21:14.50.
Next week, the Madrid and Boone girls and boys teams will all run together again at the Ballard Golf and Country Club in Huxley on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
