Lorraine Lutjen

BOONE, Iowa—Lorraine Lutjen, age 90, of rural Boone, passed away September 15, 2024 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, IA.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 28, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Lorraine Lutjen was born in Boone, Iowa, on March 22, 1934, the daughter of Clarence Murken and Hazelle Nelson. She graduated from Boone High School in 1951. On September 2, 1951, Lorraine married LaVerne Lutjen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Together they farmed on the Lutjen Century Farm in Hamilton County near Stanhope. She worked for a time with DeKalb in Ames, supporting dealers across the region.

Lorraine was a faithful and active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a gifted musician with a love for playing piano and organ. She served as church organist at Trinity and then St. Paul’s for over 40 years. She was active in LWML at St. Paul’s as well as with Iowa District West. She served as a 4-H leader, was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, and crocheted special afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne, her parents and grandson Aaron Heineman. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Michael) Bonello of Sparta, WI, Kathleen Anderson of Maple Grove, MN, Pamela (Mervin) Hansen of Woodward, IA, and Mari Lynn (Paul) Heineman of Ogden, IA; grandchildren, Christian (Kristina) Bonello, Derek (Katy) Bonello, Brian (Jenelle) Anderson, Laura (Matt) Lindorfer, Sarah (Dan) Frith, Bradley (Jane) Hansen, Kyle (Heather) Hansen, Andrew (Katy) Heineman, Marcus (Leslie) Heineman, and Grant (Emily) Heineman; twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Alice) Murken; sister, Barbara (Walt) Gmelch, and numerous extended family members.

In memory of Lorraine, memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Lorraine’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
