The Boone volleyball team could not overcome late surges from Gilbert as the Toreadors lost to the Tigers, 18-25, 20-25, 21-25, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Gilbert.
The loss dropped Boone to 0-3 in conference play and 2-9 overall. Gilbert improved to 1-2 in the Raccoon River Conference and 4-10 overall.
Senior Emma Wiebold led the Toreadors’ offensive attack with 7 kills, and Junior Jenna Johnson set 12 assists.
Junior Tria Hoyle led Boone in serving and went 9-9 with 2 aces. Johnson followed and was 12-13 with 1 ace while senior Addie Tungesvik ended 8-10 with 1 ace.
On the defensive end, Tungesvik recorded 23 digs and Wiebold had 16.
The Toreadors stopped the Tigers at the net with senior Hayleigh Lingo, junior Madelyn Davidson and junior Madilyn Barrett contributing 1 block each.
Next week, Boone hosts Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:15 p.m. in another conference match-up at Boone High School.
