The Ogden and Madrid boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Norseman Invitational at River Bend Golf Course in Story City Thursday, Sept. 26.
Ogden boys, rated No. 3 in Class 1A, finished third with 78 points.
The two schools that placed ahead of the Bulldogs were larger schools.
Class 3A, No. 12, Bondurant-Farrar won the meet with 54 points, and Class 3A, No. 16, Nevada finished second with 72 points.
The top 6 runners for the Bulldogs all had personal bests while the top 3 were medalists.
Senior Jude Benbow had another runner-up finish and ran a personal record time of 16:38 and was a medalist.
Senior Brady Van Sickle finished 8th with a personal record time of 17:26 and was a medalist.
Freshman Myles Tromblay ended 18th in a personal record time of 17:44 and was the final Bulldog medalist.
Senior Caden Lerdal finished in 24th place in 17:53, and sophomore Thomas Bergstrom was 26th in 17:44. Both were personal records.
Madrid girls also finish 3rd
The Madrid girls, rated No. 2 in Class 1A, also pulled out a third-place finish at Story City with 74 points.
The Tigers also had two larger schools place ahead of them.
Class 3A, No. 13, North Polk won the girls meet with 57 points, and Class 3A, No. 16, Ballard followed with 58 points.
Junior Katelyn Brandhorst finished 3rd in 19:25. Sophomore Madelyn Grothus was right behind in 4th place in 19:41, and sophomore Hannah Brandhorst finished 6th in 20:05. Those three Tigers were medalists.
Sophomore Adelyn White was 22nd in 22:26, and senior Mila Grothus was 37th in 23:19.
Madrid boys finish in 9th place
The Madrid boys finished 9th at Story City with 236 points.
Senior Blake Renze led the Tigers finishing 15th in 17:40 and was a medalist.
Junior Cavin Pehl placed 48th in 18:52, and senior Brody Buck was 52nd in 19:22.
The scoring was rounded out with freshman Kris Petersen finishing 58th in 19:43, and senior Tate Lawson ending 63rd in 19:53.
Ogden girls also finish 9th
The Ogden girls finished 9th at Story City with 236 points.
Senior Samantha Lass was the first Bulldog across the line in 31st in 23:07.
Junior McKenzie Spencer was 40th in 23:37, and senior Addison Trusler ended in 43rd in 23:43.
Freshman Elyse Fisher finished in 27:54 and sophomore Brylie Hicks ended 29:51.
Schools competing at the Norseman Invitational were Bondurant-Farrar, Nevada, Ogden, North Polk, Clear Lake, Ballard, Roland-Story, Greene County, Madrid, Southeast Valley, Saydel, South Hamilton. Additionally, Woodward Academy competed for the boys.
Next week, all three Boone County schools, Ogden, Madrid and Boone, will compete at Don Williams Golf Course on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
