Posted on 02 October 2024 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Parks Department will be blocking off several streets at Herman Park and McHose Park Thursday. The announcement for the street closures was made today:

Effective Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 from 7:30 am to 3 pm:
McHose Park, Herman Park Road, and the bike trail will be closed to vehicular traffic
and pedestrian traffic due to tree work in these areas.
Use alternative routes during this time.

The street closures are part of the planned Dead Tree Removal Day Thursday.

Park Board Member Susie Thorngren was on the KWBG Tuned In Program Monday and talked about the project:

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Park Board is pleased to announce next Thursday, October 3rd will be a Dead Tree Removal Day in Herman Park and the north portion of McHose Park thanks to six local tree service businesses who have volunteered their time, staff and equipment in this important endeavor.

The local tree companies who have accepted the invitation to assist the Park and volunteer this day include: TA Tree Service, D&J Tree Service, Freedom Tree Care, Guy and a Bucket, K&C Trees and Outdoor Image. We are extremely grateful for these companies for their donation to the city in what has become a challenge to rid the parks of the dead trees, many of which have been afflicted by the Emerald Ash disease. Approximately 20 licensed tree professionals will assist that day from 7:30 am-3 pm.

Thanks to 24 community members, including surrounding neighbors, many Boone County RSVP volunteers and several Boone Rotary Club members who will be guarding the barricades at the bike path and entrances to Herman Park. Various organizations will be donating and preparing food for lunch including Boone Hy-Vee and The Boone Evangelical Free Church. Park Board Commissioners will be serving lunch to the tree service volunteers and Boone City Park employees.

McHose Park gates will be locked at the north end on Park Avenue and at Doran Drive. Herman Park will be barricaded at all three entrances. Both parks will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for everyone’s safety from 7:30 am—3 pm, Thursday, October 3rd. We appreciate the public’s cooperation. Attached is the Tuned In Program that aired Monday on KWBG FM 101.5, AM 1590 and the live stream kwbglive.com.
