The Madrid girls’ basketball team scored its first victory of the season as it beat Green Mountain-Garwin, 37-23, at Garwin on Tuesday, November 26.
The Wolverines came out strong and led, 10-7, at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Tigers played well in the 2nd quarter and took a 15-12 lead at the half.
The teams were tied, 21-21, at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Madrid ran away with the game in the 4th quarter, scoring 16 points to GMG’s 2, and the game ended 31-23.
The leading scorer for the Tigers was Jillian Olmstead who had 12 points on 5 field goals made 2 3-pointers.
Lauren Dvorak made 9 points on 3 field goals and 3 free throws, while Laura Eagleton recorded 8 points on 2 field goals and 4 free throws.
Audrey Brown and Olmstead contributed 3 assists.
The Madrid defense was led by Dvorak who had 8 rebounds 2 blocks, and 1 steal.
Olmstead recorded 8 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal and Eagleton had 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Tigers improve to 1-1, and GMG fell to 0-2.
Next week Madrid plays Southeast Valley in a girls/boys doubleheader at 6 p.m. at Madrid High School.
