Boone boys fall short in overtime

The Boone boys’ basketball team fell short in overtime, 57-48, against Winterset Friday, January 3, in Boone in Raccoon River Conference play. 

The Huskies had a slight lead, 10-9, at the end of the 1st quarter and had a substantial 12-point lead at the half, 27-15. 

The Toreadors pulled to within 2 by the end of the 3rd quarter, 34-32, and tied it up at the end of regulation, 45-45. 

However, Winterset scored 12 points to Boone’s 3 in overtime and won the game, 57-48. 

Tyson Shivers led all scorers with 18 points on 9 field goals. 

Devin Silbaugh had 10 points on 2 3-pointers and 2 free throws while Braden Brooks also scored 10 points on 1 3-pointer and 1 free throw. 

Wes Van Pelt had 4 assists while Jude Baumgardner had 3. 

Shivers led the defense with 13 rebounds, 1 block and 4 steals. Silbaugh contributed 7 rebounds, and Baumgardner had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. 

The Toreadors fall to 4-4 on the season and 1-4 in the conference. The Huskies improve to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference. 

Boone will host Carlisle (2-5 overall, 0-5 conference) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, in Boone.
