John Riker

BOONE, Iowa—John Irving Riker, 74, of Boone, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street in Boone. Visitation will be held an hour before the service.

John Irving Riker was born October 4, 1950, in Boone, the son of John Stanton and Ilamae (Klousia) Riker. He attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1969.

John Irving was first employed with Hallett Construction in Boone, for a couple of years, building highways, he then worked for Union Pacific for 2-3 years, and retired from Fareway after 30 plus years, starting out in the warehouse and then driving truck. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and was known to say that he was a pretty good shade tree mechanic. John Irving was a friend of Bill W. for 42 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Tom Riker, Richard Riker and Donald Riker.

John Irving is survived by his daughter, Meliea Desher of Boone; son, John Ethan Riker of Ames; granddaughter, Madisen Desher of Scottsdale, AZ; brother, Stephen Riker of Boone and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to John Irving’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
