The Madrid girls’ basketball team lost to Ankeny Christian, 32-26, Monday, January 6, in non-conference play.
The Eagles jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the 1st quarter, and the Tigers narrowed the gap to 20-12 at the half.
Madrid pulled closer and was behind, 26-20, at the end of the 3rd quarter, but Ankeny Christian ended up winning, 32-26.
Lauren Dvorak had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
She made 4 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 1 free throw and also had 1 block and 1 steal.
Laura Eagleton had 8 points on 3 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 1 free throw while Samantha Springer added 8 points on 3 field goals and 2 3-pointers.
Eagleton added 2 assists and Dvorak and Audrey Brown had 1 each.
For the defense, Springer grabbed 8 rebounds and Eagleton had 6 rebounds and 1 steal.
Madrid is 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference and Ankeny Christian is 6-1 overall.
Madrid will resume West Central Conference play and will travel to No. 15 Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (6-1 overall, 4-1 conference) at 6 p.m. Friday, January 10.
