The Boone boys’ basketball team bounced back from an overtime loss at home last week with another close victory over Carlisle, 62-58, Tuesday, January 7, in Boone in Raccoon River Conference play.
The Wildcats were up by a point at the end of the 1st quarter, 15-14; however, the Toreadors came roaring back and had a 10-point lead at the half, 36-26.
Carlisle evened the score at the end of the 3rd quarter, 45-45; but Boone was able to come out on top, 62-58.
Tyson Shivers had another double-double with 10 points on 5 field goals and 11 rebounds, including 5 offensive boards.
Braden Brooks led the Toreador offense with 15 points on 5 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 4 free throws.
Jude Baumgardner was also in double figures with 10 points on 4 field goals and 2 3-pointers.
Wes Van Pelt and Brooks had 3 assists each.
For the defense, Baumgardner grabbed 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Brooks and Landon Myers added 4 rebounds each, and Shivers also had a block and a steal.
The win takes the Toreadors to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference and Carlisle falls to 3-5 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
Earlier in the evening, the Boone girls’ basketball team lost to Carlisle, 56-24.
Boone faces a stiff test on the road against Class 3A, No. 5, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn (6-3 overall, 4-2 conference) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 10.
