The Class 1A, No. 2, Madrid boys’ basketball team now sits alone at the top of the West Central Conference standings after beating Class 1A, No. 7, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, 84-77, Friday, January 10 in conference play at Adair.
The Tigers had a 3-point lead, 26-23, at the end of the 1st quarter and led, 41-31, at the half.
Madrid continued to lead, 61-53, at the end of the 3rd quarter and won the game, 84-77.
Toryn Severson led all scorers with 30 points on 8 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 12 free throws.
Jevyn Severson added 20 points on 6 field goals and 8 free throws.
Brody Buck had 13 points on 6 field goals and 1 3-pointer.
All five starters scored in double figures as Emerson Bridgewater had 11 points and Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz had 10.
Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz, Toryn Severson and Buck all had 4 assists.
Jevyn Severson led the Tiger defense with 10 rebounds, and Bridgewater grabbed 9.
Toryn Severson added 4 rebounds and 1 block.
With the victory, Madrid claimed the top spot in the conference standings with a 11-0 overall record and a 7-0 conference record.
ACGC is right behind in second place with a 7-1 record and a 5-1 conference record.
The Madrid girls opened the evening with a 57-5 loss against ACGC.
Madrid boys will play a non-conference game against Woodward Academy (1-3) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 14.
