The Boone boys’ basketball team fell to Class 3A, No. 1, Ballard, 89-57, Tuesday, January 21, in Boone in Raccoon River Conference play.
The Bombers raced out to a 27-9 lead after the 1st quarter and led, 47-31, at the half.
Ballard continued to increase the lead to 70-45 after the 3rd quarter and won, 89-57.
Reid Carr led the Toreadors with 17 points on 3 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 9 free throws while Wes Van Pelt added 13 points on 5 field goals and 3 3-pointers
Tyson Shivers had 10 points on 5 field goals, 11 rebounds and 5 steals, good for another double-double.
Jude Baumgardner had 4 assists with Devin Silbaugh and Van Pelt with 2 each.
Baumgardner had 7 rebounds and 1 steal while Braden Brooks had 5 rebounds.
Boone fell to 7-6 overall and 3-6 in the conference while Ballard stayed perfect, improving to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in the conference.
The Boone girls’ basketball team lost to Ballard earlier in the evening, 37-18.
The Toreadors will play at 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. in a girls/boys doubleheader Friday, January 24, at Gilbert.
The Boone girls are 5-10 overall and 0-9 in the Raccoon River Conference.
The Gilbert girls are 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Last week, the Tigers were rated No. 15 in Class 3A; however, they dropped out of the rankings this week.
The Gilbert boys are 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
The games will be broadcast on AM 1590, FM 101.5 and kwbglive.com with sports director Ryan Wendt on the call.
Gilbert won both the girls’ game, 68-40, and the boys’ game, 89-68, last month.
