BOONE, Iowa—Elizabeth “Elly” Jane Hall, born on July 22, 1980, to Robert and Patricia (Boyer) Hall in Boone, Iowa, and passed away unexpectedly at her home in Boone on January 22, 2025, at the age of 44, due to bilateral pulmonary embolism.
Elly’s childhood was spent running around the neighborhood with her sisters Courtney and Aubry, and especially her first best friend, Jenny, dancing like no one was watching, taping over her big sister’s cassette tapes, and occasionally locking out her little sister from their shared bedroom. (Oh, and for the record, I think the girls did beat the boys in the final empty lot tennis ball, baseball battle).
Elly graduated from Boone High School in 1998, where she was a member of the synchronized swimming team, known as the “Dolphins.” She pursued an accounting degree at DMACC but was really just born to 10-key and was naturally able to type faster than anyone she knew. From her first childhood “office” in her bedroom on Marion Street, Elly moved on to become a data entry typist at CDS Global, a bookkeeper with Casey’s Corporate in Ankeny, and most recently as a cashier at the Short Stop in Boone, among various other jobs.
Elly’s greatest achievements began in 2000, when she became a mother to Aiden, followed later by Marlee, and Jude. She was immensely proud of her children and raised them to love big music, all the dogs and animals, being outside camping, swimming and fishing and shared with them her sense of humor and high intelligence.
Elly’s vibrant personality was marked by countless jokes, goofiness, an infectious laugh, and a beautiful smile. She was known for her happy, loving, and free spirit, especially in her younger years.
Elly’s legacy though is her incredibly large and open heart, filled with love for kids, dogs, family, and the countless friends she made everywhere she went. Elly’s sensitivity for the human heart was both her strength and weakness, often giving more than she received, especially after the loss of her partner and the father of her younger two children, Todd, in 2016. This loss left a deep and lasting impact on the rest of her days, and she never fully recovered from that darkness.
Despite her pain and suffering, Elly still found strength and perseverance bringing light to the dark places she found herself in. She put the needs and feelings of others first, maintaining her selflessness until the very end.
Elizabeth “Elly” Jane Hall will be remembered for her boundless love, vibrant spirit, and her ability to reach people right where they were. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her, and she will be missed like crazy.
Elly was preceded in death by her grandparents, Max and Jane Hall, John “Bud” and Rita Boyer, and partner, Todd Baumgardner.
Elly is survived by her parents, Robert and Patricia Hall of Boone, sisters Courtney (Mike) Gibbs, and Aubry Hall of Boone; children Aiden Hall of Boone, Marlee Hall of Ames, and Jude Baumgardner of Boone; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Final arrangements are being handled through Ames Monument and Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children of Elizabeth Hall for future designation.
A Celebration of Life for Elly will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Cobblestone Inn & Suites, 1900 Lakewood Dr. Boone, IA 50036.
