The Class 1A, No. 2, Madrid boys’ basketball team improved their record to a perfect 20-0 with a victory over Don Bosco of Gilbertville, 69-39, Monday, February 10, at Madrid in non-conference play.
The Tigers had a 23-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and were up 37-18 at the half.
Madrid was ahead 57-28 at the end of the 3rd quarter and won the game, 69-39.
Brody Buck led the way with 21 points on 7 field goals, 4 3-pointers and 3 free throws.
Toryn Severson had 19 points on 7 field goals and 5 free throws, and Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz had 12 points on 4 field goals, 3 3-pointers and 1 free throw.
Buck had 5 assists while Ortiz-Alaniz had 4.
For the defense, Toryn Severson had 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal, and Jevyn Severson had 7 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals.
Emerson Bridgewater had 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 3 steals.
Madrid improved to 20-0 overall, and Don Bosco fell to 16-5.
Tonight the Tigers play Class 1A, No. 4, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (18-1 overall, 11-1 conference) for the West Central Conference title at 7:30 p.m. at Madrid.
