Boone boys end season at Newton

Newton made 16 3-pointers as it beat the Boone boys’ basketball team, 97-54, on Monday, February 24, in substate play. 

Tyson Shivers led the scoring with 20 points on 7 field goals and 6 free throws. 

Braden Brooks followed with 17 points on 6 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 3 free throws. 

Reid Carr had 7 points on 2 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 2 free throws while Devin Silbaugh had 4 points on 1 field goal and 2 free throws. 

Hendrix Moorman added 3 points on 1 3-pointer, and Jude Baumgardner had 3 points on 1 field goal and 1 free throw. 

The Toreadors end the season 8-15 while the Cardinals improved to 12-10. 

For the season, Brooks led the Toreadors with 307 points, Shivers had 228 and Baumgardner added 194. 

Baumgardner led the team in assists with 53, Wes Van Pelt had 46 and Carr had 40. 

For the defense, Shivers had 227 rebounds followed by Baumgardner with 149 and Brooks had 119.
