Boone girls’ tennis gets second straight sweep

The Boone girls’ tennis team hosted another meet and had another 11-0 sweep, this time over Newton, Monday, April 7, at McHose Park.

The Boone girls’ tennis team hosted another meet and had another 11-0 sweep, this time over Newton, Monday, April 7, at McHose Park. 

“It was a nice shutout victory over a well-coached Newton team that always plays good tennis,” said head coach Shawn Latimer. 

All 6 Toreadors competing in singles won in straight sets. 

At No. 1, Kaylee Kuehl won, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 Livi Schneider won 6-0,6-1, and at No. 3, Shannon Jenkins won, 6-3, 6-3. 

At No. 4, Juliana Lutz won, 6-1,7-5, at No. 5 Ally Thompson won 6-1, 7-6 (2), and at No. 6, Clarie Hardinger won, 6-4, 6-2. 

Lutz was down, 1-4, in her second set and was able to come from behind to secure the victory while Thompson won her second set in tiebreaker. 

In doubles, the success continued as all 5 Boone teams won in straight sets. 

At No. 1, Kuehl and Schneider won, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, Jenkins and Hardinger won, 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 3, Lutz and Olivia Conlin won, 6-1, 6-0. 

At No. 4, Michaella Anderson and Rozzie Stevenson won, 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 5, Thompson and Rachel Ungs won, 6-0, 6-2. 

“It was a chilly night, but the winds died down and we had decent weather to play,” Latimer said. 

The Toreadors improved to 2-0 on the season and Newton fell to 1-1. 

Boone is back in action as it travels to Eldora to face South Hardin (0-1) at 4:15 this afternoon.
