Devin Silbaugh and Tyler Lindahl won the championship in doubles for the Boone boys’ tennis team, while teammates Braxtan Sproule and Patrick Houser were runners-up at the Class 1A district tournament held Wednesday, May 14, at McHose Park in Boone.

The Toreadors will send not one but both doubles teams to the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Individual Tennis Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27 and 28, at Waterloo.

Silbaugh and Lindahl beat teams from Denison, Nevada and North Polk, before defeating Sproule and Houser, 6-0, 6-2, to seal their spot as state qualifiers.

Sproule and Houser defeated teams from North Polk, Nevada, and Newton before losing to Silbaugh and Lindahl, and they also qualified for state as runners-up.

In singles, Wes Van Pelt finished 4th, notching a win over Harlan’s Kobe Klaasen and defeating Newton’s Evan Marshall in 3rd-set tiebreaker.

Van Pelt lost in the semifinals to eventual singles champion Easton Moon of North Polk before losing to Issac Jackson of Audubon in the 3rd-place match

Teammate Calvin Jordan faced a tough draw and was eliminated in the opening round by Newton’s Ethan Valtman.

Complete results were previously posted to kwbg.com

In addition to preparing for the individual tournament in 2 weeks, the Toreadors are also preparing for the team substate meet Saturday, May 17, at McHose Park in Boone.

Boone (12-2) will face Harlan Community (1-9) at 10:30 a.m., and the winner will face the winner of the Atlantic (7-3) and Glenwood (5-8) meet at noon.

Eight teams in Class 1A will advance to the 2025 IHSAA State Team Tennis Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4, at Iowa City.
