Boone boys qualify for state track meet

Jude Baumgardner won 2 field events for the Boone boys’ track team at the Class 3A state qualifying meet Thursday, May 15, in Nevada.

Jude Baumgardner won 2 field events for the Boone boys’ track team at the Class 3A state qualifying meet Thursday, May 15, in Nevada. 

Baumgardner was 1st in the shot put with his throw of 51-0-3.75 and also finished 1st in the discus with a throw of 144-04. 

Tyson Shivers finished 2nd in the discus with his throw of 132-03. 

The distance medley relay of Luis Maldonado, Jordan McCloud, Maddox McIntyre and Dorian Myers finished 2nd with a time of 3:38.53. 

In addition, the 4×200 meter relay of Lucas Boucher, Noah Davies, Joshua Ingram, and Lucas Moore has also qualified for state with their time of 1:31.69.

Events finishing 1st or 2nd at the state qualifying meet automatically advanced to state for Class 3A while the 4×200 qualified at-large.

The Toreadors finished 6th overall with 78 points, and Gilbert won the meet with 166 points.

Boone will now prepare for the Iowa High School Track & Field Championships, set for Thursday-Saturday, May 22–24, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
