Madrid softball rallies past Panorama

The Madrid softball team delivered a come from behind victory at home Wednesday, June 11, while the baseball team lost its game. 

The Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Panorama, 5-4, in West Central Conference play. 

Madrid trailed 4-1 heading into their final at-bat.  

Avian Landers had a two-run hit, and Samantha Springer, Mayzie Surratt, Hailey Renslow, Savannah Bradley, and Tilly Sweet all scored in the win. 

Surratt struck out nine batters in a complete game performance that helped Madrid improve to 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference. 

Panorama dropped to 3-9 and remains winless in league play. 

Madrid now turns its attention to a road doubleheader tonight at Des Moines Christian (5-7 overall, 4-4 conference), with games scheduled for 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Madrid baseball falls to Panorama 

On the baseball diamond, Madrid couldn’t keep pace with Panorama’s offense, falling 14-4. 

Mason Moorman led the Tigers with two hits, a run scored, and a stolen base.  

He also started on the mound, striking out three.  

Eli Petersen and Preston Wicker each drove in a run, while Brady Springer added an RBI of his own. 

Madrid (4-7 overall, 3-6 conference) will look to regroup quickly as it travels to face Des Moines Christian (9-3 overall, 7-1 conference) in a conference doubleheader tonight.
