It was a challenging night on the road for both the Madrid baseball and softball teams as they took on Des Moines Christian in West Central Conference doubleheaders Thursday, June 12.

Softball: Des Moines Christian over Madrid 7-5 and 6-2

The Madrid softball team battled hard but came up short in both games against the Lions.

In Game 1, the Tigers kept things close, but Des Moines Christian pulled away late for a 7-5 win.

Game 2 saw Madrid struggle to generate offense in a 6-2 loss.

Despite the setbacks, the Tigers will look to bounce back quickly as they return home to host Baxter tomorrow.

Baseball: Des Moines Christian over Madrid 21-2 and 13-3

The Madrid baseball team fell in both games of the doubleheader.

In Game 1, the Lions’ offense exploded early, and Madrid couldn’t recover.

Mason Moorman, Kole Deppe, Preston Wicker, and Levi Kockler each recorded a hit, while Emerson Bridgewater and Kockler drove in runs.

Nick Milani and Conner Pettiecord scored the Tigers’ two runs.

Zachary Newell took the loss on the mound.

Game 2 saw a more competitive effort from Madrid, but Des Moines Christian again proved too strong.

Bridgewater had a hit and two RBIs, while Milani, Easton Halverson, and Moorman each scored a run.

Evenou Viglo started on the mound and struck out one, with Halverson adding a strikeout in relief.

Madrid drops to 4-9 overall and 3-8 in conference play, while Des Moines Christian improves to 11-3 and 9-1 in the conference.

The Tigers will look to regroup as they host Lynnville-Sully tomorrow.
