The Madrid softball team delivered a dominant 10-2 non-conference win over Baxter on Saturday, June 14, while the baseball team saw its game against Lynnville-Sully suspended after just one inning due to lightning.

Softball: Madrid 10, Baxter 2

The Madrid softball team came out swinging and never looked back, scoring in four different innings to secure a convincing 10-2 victory at home.

Tilly Sweet led the offensive charge, collecting three hits, scoring twice, driving in four runs, and swiping two bases.

Mayzie Surratt, Ashlyn Burkhart, and Rylee Borcherding each added two hits, two runs, and an RBI, helping Madrid build momentum early with two runs in the first and third innings, followed by a five-run outburst in the fourth.

Avian Landers chipped in with two hits and two RBIs, while Samantha Springer added a hit, a run, and an RBI.

Olivia Pudenz and Hadley Mickle each contributed a hit to round out the attack.

Surratt was equally dominant in the circle, striking out nine in a complete game win.

With the victory, Madrid improved to 5-10 overall and 2-8 in West Central Conference play.

The Tigers return to conference action tonight at home against Woodward-Granger (11-4-1, 5-3).

Baseball: Lynnville-Sully 7, Madrid 3 (suspended)

The Madrid baseball team’s non-conference matchup with Lynnville-Sully was cut short due to lightning, with the Tigers trailing 7-3 after the first inning.

Madrid (4-9 overall, 3-8 conference) will host Woodward-Granger (5-9 overall, 4-5 conference) in a return to West Central Conference play tonight.
