The Boone softball team rallied late and pulled away in extra innings to defeat Gilbert 9-7 in a Raccoon River Conference showdown Monday, June 16, in Gilbert.

After falling behind 5-0 in the first two innings, Boone chipped away at the deficit and eventually forced extra innings.

The Toreadors scored three runs in the top of the third, then added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to tie the game at 6-6.

In the top of the eighth, Boone broke through with a three-run rally that proved to be the difference.

Kaylee Kuehl powered the offense with two hits, including a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth.

Hailee Bingham had a big night at the plate with three hits, two runs scored, an RBI, and a double.

Carly Busch contributed two hits and scored three times, while Brooke Weisbrod added a double, two runs, and two RBIs.

Avery Howie and Claire Hardinger each added a hit, with Howie driving in a run.

Sydney Adams also chipped in with a hit and a run scored.

Busch went the distance in the circle, pitching all eight innings and striking out two to earn the win.

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to rain.

With the win, Boone improved to 11-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Gilbert dropped to 9-7 and 0-2 in the Raccoon River.

The Toreadors are back in action tonight with a non-conference road game at Webster City (1-11), with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
