The Madrid softball team faced a challenging stretch over the weekend, dropping three games.
West Central Valley 4, Madrid 0
On Friday, June 20, Madrid fell, 4-0, to West Central Valley in a West Central Conference matchup at home.
Despite the loss, Kiera Alt had two base hits, while Samantha Springer and Mayzie Surratt each added a hit.
Surratt also struck out seven in a complete game effort.
Hudson 5, Madrid 4
The Tigers traveled north to Mason City for the Newman Softball Classic Tournament, Saturday, June 21, where they opened with a narrow 5-4 loss to Hudson in Game 1.
Alt led the offense again with three hits and two runs scored.
Ashlyn Burkhart drove in two runs with a one hit.
Surratt added two hits, a run, and an RBI, while also pitching another complete game with seven strikeouts.
Springer, Tilly Sweet, and Hadley Mickle each contributed hits, with Mickle also scoring a run.
No. 8 Newman Catholic 8, Madrid 0
In Game 2 of the tournament, Madrid fell, 8-0, to No. 8-ranked Mason City Newman Catholic.
Surratt collected two of Madrid’s three hits, with Burkhart adding the third.
Surratt struck out two in the loss.
Now sitting at 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the West Central Conference, Madrid looks to bounce back tonight as they host Ogden (10-11 overall, 6-8 conference) in a conference matchup.
First pitch is scheduled for this evening in Madrid, weather permitting.
