The Madrid softball team picked up a win on Wednesday, June 25, defeating South Hardin 9-6 in a non-conference road game.
Madrid broke the game open with a four-run third inning and added insurance with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, plus one more in the seventh.
South Hardin kept it close with a four-run fourth and single runs in the third and fifth.
Mayzie Surratt led the way with two hits, including a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
She also struck out 10 batters in a complete game victory.
Samantha Springer had a big night as well, driving in three runs, scoring twice, and stealing a base.
Kiera Alt added a hit, two runs, and an RBI, while Hadley Mickle, Ashlyn Burkhart, and Tilly Sweet each contributed RBIs.
Savannah Bradley, Hailey Renslow, and Springer all added hits to round out the offensive effort.
Madrid improved to 7-16 overall on the season while South Hardin fell to 2-17 overall with the loss.
Madrid will travel to face Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (2-16 overall, 2-12 conference) at 7 p.m. Monday, June 30.
