The Madrid softball team wrapped up its regular season with a pair of competitive games last week but fell short in both contests.
Griswold 5, Madrid 4 (9 innings)
In extra innings, Madrid came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Griswold Thursday, July 3, at Anita.
The Tigers got strong offensive performances from Ashlyn Burkhard (2 hits), Samantha Springer (1 hit, 2 RBIs, 1 run, 1 stolen base), and Hadley Mickle (2 hits, 2 runs).
Tilly Sweet, Savannah Bradley, Avian Landers, and Rylee Borcherding also contributed at the plate.
Mayzie Surratt was outstanding in the circle, striking out 12 in a complete game effort
Panorama 12, Madrid 7
Madrid lost, 12-7, to Panorama Wednesday, July 2, in a West Central Conference game in Panora.
Landers led the way with 2 hits, 2 runs, an RBI, and a triple.
Mickle and Sweet each drove in 2 runs, while Surratt added 2 hits and a run scored. Springer chipped in with an RBI.
Surratt also pitched the complete game, striking out 6 in the loss.
Madrid finishes the regular season at 8-20 overall and 3-14 in the West Central Conference.
The Tigers host North Tama (5-13) tonight at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Class 1A, Region 8 tournament.
