BOONE, Iowa—A forecast that includes rain and the possibility of thunderstorms on Friday evening has prompted organizers to move this month’s Nights on the Green event.
“It will be at the Central Iowa Expo Grounds in the Case Building, to be specific,” Fourth Ward Councilman Terry Moorman said this morning. “There will be signs pointing the way. Food trucks, beer tent, indoor seating, live music and a kids’ zone area will be provided.”
This month’s Nights on the Green will start at 5:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. The Central Iowa Expo Grounds are located at 1827 217th Road at the intersection of highways 30 and 17 southeast of the city.
Florida-born and raised singer-songwriter Casey Kearney will perform at the event, which is free to the public. Kearney performed the “Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” at Truist Park during the Atlanta Braves’ 2021 World Series Championship season. She also performed at the 2023 National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and sang the national anthem at this year’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
She has shared the bill with such well-known performers as Deana Carter, Drake White, Jason Isbell, Sheryl Crow, Need to Breathe, Grace Potter, Gregg Allman, Tanya Tucker, Justin Moore, Joe Diffie and Brandi Carlile.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Casey coming to Nights on the Green to share her incredible talent and voice,” said Kris Blocker, executive director of the Boone County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Blocker noted that the expo grounds have been pressed into service for several other Nights on the Green event. “We’ve moved before due to weather, and it’s always been the backup plan, so it makes for an easy transition. I think a lot of people will also remember that we made the move to the expo grounds last July and August because of the Story Street overlay project, too” she said.
