The Boone softball team won its Class 4A Region 7 opener, shutting out Perry 4-0 on Thursday, July 9, at Gary Creasman Field in Boone.
In the bottom of the fifth, Boone’s bats came alive—and they didn’t hold back.
With two runners on, Hailee Bingham stepped to the plate and launched a three-run home run, breaking the scoreless tie.
Later in the bottom of the fifth, Brooke Weisbrod ripped an RBI triple, and that was all Boone needed.
In addition, Carly Busch, Kaylee Kuehl, Claire Hardinger, Sydney Adams, and Caitlin Needham each added a hit.
In the circle, Busch threw a complete game shutout, striking out nine and not issuing a single walk.
With the win, Boone improved to 20-13 on the season, while Perry ended its year at 7-13.
The Toreadors now turn their attention to a tough regional matchup on the road against Storm Lake (25-6) at 7 p.m. this Saturday
