Betty Martin

KWBG 08/13/25

BOONE, Iowa—Betty Martin, 92, of Boone, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Betty was born on July 16, 1933 in Boxholm, the daughter of Clarence and Elda (Olson) Will.

Betty attended school and graduated from Boxholm Community School. After working for a time in Des Moines, Betty met Richard “Dick” Martin. They were united in marriage in Boxholm on July 19, 1959. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Todd, Rodney, and Joni.

Betty enjoyed the vegetable garden that she and Dick started and operated for many years. Their melons were well-known throughout Boone County. They sold their produce at the Ames Farmers’ Market and the Boone Farmers’ Market for several decades.

Betty enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She worked in several secretarial positions in the Boone and Ames area. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and served in the Ladies Auxiliary. Betty spent many hours volunteering for the church and in the community. Her door was always open; she welcomed many people into her home for coffee and fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Dick Martin in 2021; three brothers, Paul Will, Don Will, and Chuck Will; and two sisters, Mavis Hull and Bonnie Peters.

Betty is survived by her children, Todd (Renee) Martin, Rodney (Cindi) Martin, and Joni (Russell) Nollen; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Kasey, Wesley, Laura, Shaunacey, and Layk; one great-granddaughter, Everlee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at the Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone with Rev. David Burling officiating. A visitation will take place an hour prior to the service, also at Augustana Lutheran Church. The funeral will be livestreamed and available for viewing on Betty’s Tribute Wall on the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel website. Burial will be in Lawn Cemetery near Boxholm.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Betty’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
