BOONE, Iowa—Billy Joe Shank of Boone, Iowa passed away suddenly on Friday, the Eighth of August, while a resident at Stratford Specialty Care Facility, Stratford, Iowa. Billy was born on January 1, 1945, in Camer, Texas, the son of Christian and Cecilia (Weks) Shank. He received his education in Woodward, Iowa. Later he relocated to Boone where he resided for most of his adult life.
Many citizens within Boone community came to recognize Billy with his friendly smile and unique wave as he pushed around his cart throughout the town. He was an avid walker with a cheerful spirit and generous heart. Billy authored a book highlighting the blessings he received throughout his life, and lessons he learned through his experiences.
Recognizing the goodness of God within his life, and through the various friendships and the generosity of others, he took classes to join the Catholic faith. He was received in the faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation and the reception of Holy Eucharist, which was his pillar when faced with life struggles.
Because of health concerns Billy spent the last few years at the Stratford Specialty Care Facility until his death on August 8th.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Boone at Sacred Heart Church, Ascension Parish, on Friday, August 29th, 10:30 a.m. Internment and burial will be immediately after the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with a luncheon following at Fitzgerald Hall, Sacred Heart Church, to which all are welcome.
