Ledges Projects Continue

KWBG 09/03/25

BOONE, Iowa—It’s been a busy summer for projects at the Ledges State Park. One that was completed earlier this summer was a new shower building at the campgrounds. Ledges Park Manager Andy Bartlett noted in the weekly Ledges Nature Notes press release that other projects have either started or are still underway. This week, Bartlett reported that their partners at Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa (CCMI) joined us this past Thursday and began ripping out rotten railroad ties along the Mesquakie Trail in the lower Ledges. This week they’ll be back to start laying stone staircase for a more durable, long-lasting trail. With the cooler weather, if you’re out here hiking, be mindful of their work and be sure to say “Thanks!” for all the hard work they are giving us.

Bartlett reported that slowly, but surely the campground entrance kiosk project is still moving forward as well. The two roof trusses were finished this week and 4 of the columns were set on the project site. The structure is going vertical!

Volunteer Karl J. assisted park staff on Friday, installing 4 of the kiosk columns at the campground entrance.
