The Madrid Tigers lit up the scoreboard Friday, September 12, in Brooklyn, powering past Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom, 53-27, in a district matchup.
Madrid jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
By halftime, the Tigers had built a 20-7 advantage, and they continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring BGM 33-20 over the final two quarters.
Quarterback Loken Velky completed both of his pass attempts for 62 yards and a touchdown and also torched the BGM defense with 230 rushing yards on 19 carries and four touchdowns.
In the Tigers’ backfield, Will Atkinson racked up 131 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries while Easton Halverson added 109 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Jevyn Severson hauled in both of Velky’s completions for 62 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Brady Springer led the charge with 10 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, while Terrin Lawrenson contributed 8.5 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Halverson also made his presence felt on both sides of the ball, adding 5.5 tackles.
Kinnick Grimm chipped in with 5 tackles.
With the win, Madrid improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in district play, while BGM drops to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the district.
Next up, Madrid returns home to host Earlham (2-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, September 19, in a district matchup.
The game also marks Homecoming for the Tigers.
