The Boone football team came out swinging Friday, September 12, but couldn’t hold off Gilbert, falling, 28-6, at Tiger Stadium in Gilbert.
Boone struck first in the opening quarter with quarterback Jude Baumgardner scoring a rushing touchdown to give the Toreadors a 6-0 lead.
However, momentum shifted in the second quarter as Gilbert found the end zone twice before halftime, taking a 14-6 lead into the break.
Boone’s offense struggled to regain rhythm, and Gilbert capitalized with two more touchdowns in the third quarter to seal the win.
Baumgardner finished the night with 9 passing yards on 1-of-14 attempts but added 41 rushing yards and Boone’s lone touchdown.
Running back Maddox McIntyre carried the load on the ground, racking up 116 yards on 30 attempts.

On defense, Dayne Brekke led the charge with 9 total tackles, including 7 solo stops, while Bodie Brogden added 8 tackles (4 solo).
