BOONE, Iowa—Boone School District Superintendent Dr. Julie Trepa sent a letter to Middle School parents and staff regarding an incident earlier Monday at the Middle School. According to the letter, a student was reported to have a weapon in his backpack. Several students notified administrators and staff isolated the individual and notified Boone Police. It was determined that the weapon was a toy nerf gun, altered to look real. Boone Police interviewed the student and family.
Trepa said in the letter that through the investigative process and completion of the threat assessment Boone Police share the District’s belief that the campus continues to be a safe environment for staff and students.
Trepa went on the thank the students that let the middle school administration know of their concerns and also encouraged parents to let their students know that if they see something or hear something they should say something. She said that while no threat was made, students were concerned and did do the right thing by reporting it.
