The Boone girls ‘tennis team continued its impressive run through the postseason with a 5-0 sweep over Grinnell on Wednesday, September 24, in a Class 1A Region 6 matchup at McHose Park.
Playing on their home courts, the Toreadors won five singles matches in straight sets and secured the team victory before doubles play was needed.
“We moved to 12-1 on the season,” head coach Shawn Latimer said.
No. 1 Kaylee Kuehl set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win, and No. 2 Livi Schneider followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
No. 3 Claire Hardinger cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, win, No. 5 Ally Thompson rolled to a 6-0, 6-1, victory, and No. 6 Olivia Conlin closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
No. 4 Juliana Lutz battled through a competitive first set to win, 6-4, and did not need to complete her second set.
With the team reaching five points, doubles matches were not played.
“This sets up once again a regional final versus Columbus with a final eight state berth on the line Saturday!” Latimer said.
Boone will travel to Waterloo to play Columbus Catholic at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at the Byrnes Park Tennis Courts.
