Mary Jane Walters

BOONE, Iowa—Mary Jane (Walker) Walters, 82, of Boone, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Boone.

Mary Jane was born on September 25, 1943, in Boone, the daughter of LeRoy L. and Edith E. Long Walker.

Mary Jane was united in marriage to Kenneth Paul Walters on June 13, 1961, in Boone.

Mary Jane worked at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada, Iowa; Bourns in Ames, and the Boone County Hospital, before working at the family business Walters Sanitary Service, Inc.

She traveled on their Harley with Kenny throughout all the continental states and Canada, but she spent many winters at her home in Tucson, Arizona, golfing, playing cards with her best friends, and volunteering with them on Mondays at Heartland Center.

A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, she was deeply involved in her community. She served for many years as both the Secretary and Treasurer of the Altar Society, where she helped clean the church. Additionally, she co-chaired the Funeral Luncheon Service. She also cherished watching her grandchildren participate in their various activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy L Walker, Edith E. Walker, and brother Allen Walker.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth P. Walters; sister, Judith Johnson; and sister-in-law Jackie Walker.

Her children, Robin (Henry) Imberti, Jim (Lori) Walters, Keith Walters (Julie), and Kenny Walters (Julie).

Grandchildren, Jennifer Flaherty, Jason (Amanda) Engnell, Sarah (Mark) Benge, Marci Baker (Ryan), Rachel (John) Taylor, Chelsey (Terry) Mann, Cris Ely, Katie Jo Matteo, Jordan (Scott) Chiri, and Connor (Bailey) Walters.

Great-Grandchildren, Makenna Flaherty, Madeline Benge, Brody Benge, Walker Hull, Elizabeth Matteo, Lillie Cooper, Taylor Engnell, Riley Engnell, Brynn Crooks, Brea Crooks, Tyler Walters, Nora Ball, Wacey Chiri, Statler Chiri, Emmitt Walters and Elijah Walters. Along with one great-great-grandson, many nieces and nephews, and other bonus grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Immediately following the Mass, a luncheon will be served and then burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Boone.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Mary Jane’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
