Madrid falls short at Lynnville-Sully

In a district matchup Friday, October 3, Madrid football came up just short against Lynnville-Sully, falling 15-6 on the road at Lynnville-Sully Football Field.

In a district matchup Friday, October 3, Madrid football came up just short against Lynnville-Sully, falling 15-6 on the road at Lynnville-Sully Football Field. 

The Hawks struck early, scoring 8 points in the first quarter and held that lead through halftime.  

Madrid responded in the third quarter with a touchdown run from quarterback Chase Perkins, trimming the deficit to 8-6.  

Perkins finished with 49 rushing yards on 12 carries and the team’s lone score, while also going 6-for-13 passing for 39 yards. 

Madrid’s momentum was halted in the fourth quarter when Lynnville-Sully added another touchdown to seal the win. 

Easton Halverson contributed 32 rushing yards on 11 carries, and Will Atkinson added 28 yards on 8 carries.  

Emerson Bridgewater led the receiving corps with 3 catches for 36 yards. 

On defense, Terrin Lawrenson led the charge with 7.5 tackles and 3 tackles for loss, while Brady Springer added 7 tackles.  

Halverson also made an impact with 6 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, and Logan Bogardus and Kolbie Owens each recorded an interception. 

Lynnville-Sully improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, while Madrid dropped to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the district. 

Madrid will look to bounce back on Friday, October 10, traveling to face Martensdale-St. Mary’s (2-4 overall, 1-4 district).  

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
