Boone football showed flashes of offensive firepower Friday, October 3, but couldn’t keep pace with a high-powered Council Bluffs Lewis Central squad, falling 52-21 in a Class 4A district matchup at Goeppinger Field.

Lewis Central jumped out to a quick lead, scoring two touchdowns early in the first quarter.

Boone responded a few minutes later when quarterback Jude Baumgardner connected with Noah Davies for a touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 14-7.

Lewis Central answered with two more scores before the end of the quarter, taking a 28-7 lead into the second.

The score remained unchanged until the final seconds of the half, when Baumgardner again found Davies for a touchdown strike to make it 28-14.

However, Lewis Central returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, extending their lead to 35-14 at halftime.

The Titans added two more touchdowns in the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth to push their lead to 52-14.

Boone capped the night with a final touchdown pass from Baumgardner to Tate Hollenkamp with just 25 seconds remaining.

Baumgardner finished the game 14-of-35 for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also rushing for 78 yards on 13 carries.

Maddox McIntyre added 86 yards on 13 attempts.

Davies led the receiving corps with 7 catches for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Hollenkamp had 4 receptions for 69 yards and 1 touchdown.

Defensively, Brogden and Romero Young Jr. each recorded 5 tackles, and Brenden Hedrick added 4.

Lewis Central improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play, while Boone dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the district.

Boone returns home to Goeppinger Field on Friday, October 10, for Homecoming and Middle School Band Night, hosting Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (3-3, 1-1).

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. on FM 101.5, AM 1590, and streaming live at kwbglive.com, with Ryan Wendt on the call.
